What is KCLU?

KC Leather University (KCLU) is an organization based in Kansas City, Missouri, that offers classes and workshops to the BDSM (Bondage/Discipline, Dominance/Submission, and Sadism/Masochism), Leather, and Fetish community. Nearly all of our activities are free and open to interested adults of all genders and sexual orientations.

History

KCLU held its first workshops in February 2002. Since that time, KCLU has held over 125 individual class sessions. While most of its activities are held in Kansas City, KCLU has held classes, demonstrations and hands-on workshops throughout the heartland, and as far away as New Jersey. In 2005, KCLU was a recipient of a Pantheon of Leather Community Service award as Small Club of the Year, and was honored to receive the Pantheon award in 2006 for Non-Profit Organization of the Year.

Activities

KCLU holds its “semester” workshops in Kansas City each September and February, in conjunction with local leather contests. In addition, KCLU has offered other classes, demonstrations, and outreach sessions outside of its semester workshops. Since August 2003, KCLU has also produced the annual "Leather in the Woods" event at Cactus Canyon Campground, near Ava, Missouri.

KCLU has also been invited to offer classes in other cities including: Omaha, NE; Des Moines, IA; Wichita and Topeka, KS; Columbia, MO; and Tulsa and Oklahoma City. It was the official organizer of the workshops for the International Ms. Leather contest from 2004-2006.

Volunteers

KCLU could not perform its mission without the tireless assistance of others. From instructors who travel great distances at their own expense, to those who volunteer to serve as subjects for demonstrations or as teaching assistants, these individuals are essential for making our classes possible. Volunteers are always needed for KCLU events. If interested in helping out, whether as an instructor, teacher’s assistant, or demonstration subject.

Sponsors

While KCLU conducts some fundraising in support of its mission, a number of businesses, clubs, community organizations, and individuals have also contributed over the years.  We welcome inquiries for those wishing to assist KCLU by making a donation, providing merchandise to use in fundraisers, helping sponsor a featured presenter, or providing some other gift or contribution. All donations to KCLU are used exclusively to defray expenses associated with producing and promoting its workshops and class sessions.

Instructors & Classes

KCLU has sought out instructors from across the United States and abroad to teach at our events. Those instructors have offered classes on topics ranging from basic BDSM and leather relationships to advanced topics such as: interrogation, fire play, and mummification.
